Front blower stuck on feet - cold toes!

Post by fivepints » Thu Aug 09, 2012 8:35 pm

Hi all, having a bit of trouble with the front blower - the air-con still works and is coming out nice and cold but, when we jab the mode button to change the direction of the air we get nothing out the dash vents. The display changes but nothing happens to the air-flow. All we get is air into the footwell, which is better than nothing I guess but does make a toes a little chilly!

I'm guessing that either
a: a flap or director has broken or,
b: the hose has become detached or,
c: the controller has got dirty and stopped working

I've had a little search around but this isn't the conventional heater problem, at least I don't think so, and was wondering if anybody might be able to offer some advice!

Also - it may or may not be related but the "Rear" control on teh front dash has been turning itself on intermittently for a little while now.

Is it an easy joib to switch over the whole controller unit?

look down by the drivers left foot there is a white disk which turns and controles the air flow
1 of the tabs has brocken off yours and a wire has come loose

I bet thats the problem

Are these available as a spare part, mines been broken for ages and only stops working every month or so and I just pop the rod back into place, but would be nice to have it working

Or are there any fixes to solve a broken one ?

I wired mine in place with some fine steel wire, I wasn't expecting it to last long but it has. You obviously have to leave enough slack for it to move. The rod itself I made out of a straightened out paint kettle handle. Getting the length right took a couple of goes but it works fine now. (This is on the electronic control one,)
