Header tank below low level when cold.Water in neck below header tank.
When engine run for 10 minutes or so water level sometimes re establishes to mid level.sometimes,does not boil?
Top hose hot radiator matrix cool.baffling the pooh out of me.
Radiator looks new.wonder if it is the infamous bleed reqd
No other sympthons

Coolant should be on line with the high level not the low level when cold.
Lost without my Bongo.

Top hose always gets hot - the bottom hose only gets hot when thermostat opens. I found that my bottom hose rarely ever got hot during normal running'
I could never get my coolant to stay at the full level, it always settled around halfway between full and low when cold - never had it go below the low mark though, so you may have a leak or, as you say, it may need bleeding properly.

System checked by local garage.Pinned it down to shot water pump.Pump changed all seems good.
