New Battery but Bongo not starting

I agree with Wonkanoby. If your Bongo has average or high miles on it your contacts will be worn away to some degree. Just make sure they are nice and flat when you tighten them up as they are not self locating.

watch the video and follow the instructions. I didn't remove the filter box I just took the top off and undid the hose. Just stuff a towel in the filter box in case you drop anything.

I think I would do the contacts on any Bongo that came into my possesion whether it needed it or not or at least carry a set in the glovebox.

It will usually be intermitent at first but one day it will just refuse point blank if left.

I ordered a starter motor solenoid kit on Wonkanoby's recommended link... A new a set is something i never got round to, though i had no starting problems after a similar battery issue to Cazzyblues back in the summer.... & my battery was only 2 years old & was not taking or holding any charge!!! (From a charger, battery removed from the van.) All fine now with a new one.. It does still actually "start on the button."

So with my memory jogged after my last post yesterday & reading Velocette's post i ordered one along with an air filter... I was going to remove the pipe anyway..?

They showed up this morning.... They couldn't have come any quicker if they were based next door...!

i looked at one car that was draining & traced it to the radio, the permanent & ignition wires were the wrong way round and causing the battery to drain over 2 to 3 days

I had a similar 'batttery flat over weekend' problem in the summer. 321away identified a constant drain when everything was switched off, and they knew which relay under the bonnet didn't close properly so wired in another relay to shut the offender down. Its worth checking for a battery drain before spending any more money, just turn everything off, disconnect the battery, and put a meter in series between the battery cable and terminal.

My memory is faint but I think in the film the guy removes both ends of the pipe and had a struggle so I removed the clip at the engine end and took the top off the filter chamber with the pipe still attached. It was back in August so I could be wrong.

Hi all, Bongo now has battery isolator switch. It has been checked by mechanic where I work to see what if anything is draining. He found nothing and said alternator chargeing ok. So I will run Bongo with the isolator now on and see if I have any problems when I want to use Bongo again. Thanks all for your responses to my post.
