BMW Clock new bulb?

Post by Dogran » Sat Oct 29, 2011 5:45 pm

Recently purchased a bmw clock from ebay to fit in the Bongo - all good except the light doesn't work. Does anyone know where I can source a replacement bulb? Looked on ebay but couldn't see anything suitable - as i understand it the bulb and its holder do not come apart so have to be replaced as one unit.

Anyone any ideas?

These are the ones....you can buy just 2.
If when you fit one it dosn't work....remove and rotate 180 degrees....they are LED's so are polarity sensitive.

I like this forum! :D

You mean all this time I just had to buy a bulb! I thought the clock was light-less as standard

These: "2 Red 509T Twist-Lock LED Dash Dashboard Speedo Bulbs" (Item number: 250903873627) should match my temp' gauge colour scheme

STOP !!!! your BMW clock already has a red filter built in.....all you need is a clear bulb and it will glow red.......putting a red bulb in will just give you a "dimmer" red.......if you want it to glow any other colour including clear then you have to pull the clock to bits and remove the filter.....(suggest you don't try that)

Thanks Hadyn, much appreciated. I've ordered 2 clear 509T bulbs so should be sorted.

You just need to put a new blue LED bulb in....the filter must have been removed....where did you get it from ??

Thanks Haydn , i bought it off ebay ages ago from a guy advertising them as green backlight to match bongo lights, i guess he must have altered them if the norm is red. I have since added some blue leds so fancied matching things up !

LEDs are general better .. but usually 'normal' tungsten 509T dash panel bulbs should be available from any car shop ..with or without the plastic base ..

I can strongly recommend these people for LEDs. Good prices, next day delivery, clear instructions and advice:

This thread reminds of that wonderful scene in Red Dwarf. "We should go on to red alert"
"Do we really have to - it will mean changing the bulb"
Classic!
