Rev Counter (V6)

Post by Major Grump » Mon Sep 26, 2011 4:27 pm

Hi All,
I'm new to Bongo's and have only just got mine back after an overheating issue. When I drove it home the rev counter was showing ~4000rpm at 105kph, this seems at lot to me (I'm used to a modern diesel where 4000 rpm would be really caning it!). Can someone tell me if this is normal? The rev counter didn't work when I got it so it may still be broken or this may be normal!
Thanks,
James

My V6 would only rev that high if being really hammered up a steep hill.

I would agree with danderman about 2500 at 60-65mph. I try to keep it around this figure because this returns the best fuel economy.

I'll check the hold button but I don't think so.

Okay, so either the rev counter is wrong (hopefully) or the gearbox is playing silly buggers. It doesn't sound like its revving like mad and if I stomp my foot down I can feel it change up so I assume its in the right gear.

While I'm on the subject... can someone explain the S gear and L(?). I assume these are sport and Low but haven't used them.
Thanks.

my v6 revs at 2500rpm at 60 mph and 3000 at around 72 mph.

the s gear is a low ratio gear for when coming down steep hills as it will only hold the first two gears and not let the van run away. also the L gear is even lower for even steeper hills. think this just holds it in the first gear. like wise u could use the hold button to keep it in gears.

It changes down, not up when you "stomp your foot", try, "not stomping your foot" & accelerate gently, it should stay in lock up & the revs should be a bit lower & economy better

Okay, fair point, down not up! 8)

I do generally drive 'gently', the Bongo isn't exactly a racing car after all! I suspect the rev counter is simply off, its just proving it that is difficult.
