Hi the AFT will not elevate??? ideas please

Post by Bongo787 » Fri May 20, 2011 2:18 pm

After reading some similar problems to what this one is having and have had no joy I thought it would be better to ask for help rather than breaking something #-o

Anyways

The roof will not go up, i've tried all the std things to check

Black box in R Arch
H/brake switch
Cancel switch in roof
Fusebox etc

but i still cant it to budge.... I know it worked last time it was used about 9 months ago

There is one extra factor to this equation though there is a piece of memory foam in the roof, that must have been put in through the front of the awning as i had to hack away at the hatch to gain access to the cancel button.

What happens

P & engine running, hand brake on

press switch on roof, warning light on dash flashes yet dimmer as do the other warning lights??
warning buzzer sounds but no movement or noise from motors?

Please can anyone help thanks

I have had similar problems (now fixed). Have a search on here to see what things others suggest you check out first (handbrake switch etc.). Once the simple possibilities have been eliminated, and as you are in Lancashire, I would strongly recommend Adrian at Jap Motors in Bury (t.0161-763-3003) as the man to fix it (v. experienced with Bongos, v. reasonable labour costs, and great to deal with) as he has been fixing a lot of these (mine included) lately. The shape of ageing Bongo things to come

if the warning lights dim when attempting to put the roof up, then that would suggest a significant voltage drop.

If the fuse is not blowing, have you checked your battery voltage when lifting the roof.

:-k Incase the memory foam has caught up in the mechanism
have you tried giving it a gentle hand pushing it up from inside
whilst operating the up switch ?
cheers! party on dudes.

Does that just indicate the voltage has gone out of range? Buggered if I can remember for sure but I think that is what my multimeter does.

Ok thanks to everybodys help so far :D
I've just been to garage to get a more accurate reading on the batteries and the aux battery was bad, so i replaced it and hoped that was the problem anyways i got back home and tried the roof again.

The dash lights still dim when i press the switch and nothing happens

I am thinking on a similar line to the foam been trapped in the mechanism some where, how much force can i push on the roof before doing permanent damage please?

If my attempts prove to defeat me then I think its a trip to Bury
