Passenger door card removal

Post by dext924 » Mon Apr 18, 2011 8:22 pm

Can anyone tell me where to find the schematics for removing the passenger door card please? I have had a look through, but cant seem to find it. My window wont go down with either switch now, been playing up for a while now, and I think the motor has either seized or packed in. I need to get in there to find out, but would prefer to do it without breaking anything #-o

Unless anyone else has any different ideas ??

Thanks

Doing this off my phone.. ....I was going to suggest the "lock" switch for the passenger window...might need a couple of on/off in case it's a poor connection.....

alternatively...... screwdriver down the door pull and undo the screw and remove the pull....remove the window switch...... it has a spring clip...then unscrew the door open lever finger plate.....then with a Image

gently lever the panel away..... and lift it away...... easing past the the door open lever.....behind that is a plastic sheet covering the door inards.....mind the black mastic it sticks to the skin like crazy so recommend the rubber surgical type gloves...
hope that makes sense...

Have you checked the drivers door loom? Could be the "down" wire for the passenger side leading from the drivers control??

Had an "up" wire go like that once...

To remove door card: remove five screws including one at the bottom of the door pull recess. Gently pry away the lower edge to release spring clips and lift upwards. Push door release handle through card. Unplug electrical connection to window switch. Job done.

Takes about 3min with practice

Don't touch the mastic! It is seriously sticky and very black. If you need access inside the door cut the plastic vapour barrier with a sharp blade and tape it up when done.

Hope you find the solution but it sounds like a broken lead in the wiring loom between door and body (again).

Ditto (I had mine off several times) BUT you don't need to cut the plastic sheet. Have a sharp kitchen knife handy and, as you peel the plastic away, use it to slice through the black goo as it is stretching, so the plastic sheet can be released. When finished, just put the plastic back in place and the goo will re-seal. that way you don't compromise the (plastic sheet) vapour barrier.

Oh and the interior door handle may seem to prevent door card removal but by turning it round a bit it will actually go through the hole in the door card. You don't need to disconnect th e linkage or anything.

Beware the window switches are brittle and expensive.

There is a reason i posted this... it can be a little easier replacing the door card with the window down, & once lined up with the lock button through the hole/latch loosely hanging through the card, give it a squeeze over the edge of the inner door skin & push down into position... (Bit like i'm caught doing here! Thanks alot Kirsty..) #-o

Thanks for all you advice, will have a little look at this problem over the next few days.

Will have a look at the wiring, do I need to check from the drivers door??

Will go and have a look at the passenger door wiring......... easy jobs first :D

Yep! Look at that first... g8dhe (Geoff)'ll (Hopefully) Agree with this, & from my own experience the passenger side goes through the driver loom.. The drivers loom seems to get more wear n tear due to the most use!? I'd stick my neck out & say at least the passenger window down wire has severed on the drivers loom...??

What state is the black ribbed loom conduit in, that's clipped to the drivers door hinge??

Your the expert on the mechanicals of the wiring loom, so yes I'll agree  I'll look after the electrons themselves hopefully without getting

Well, I had a look at the looms as mentioned. On the drivers door, it looks as though there has been some repair in the past, some dodgy wiring. But, they all seem to be wired up. However, when I checked the colour of the wire from the switch, I couldn't find that colour wire in the loom! Is this right??

Passenger door seems good. The original rubber sleeve still in tack. Would dodgy wiring from the drivers side effect the passenger door and the passenger switch working?

So, is there any way I can check the wiring? Can I put the voltmeter anywhere to see if current is actually getting to the motor?

Technically minded, I am not! I am on a huge learning curve here with all things automotive, but enjoy the challenge :D

Done a trail run on getting the door card off, not sure it would all go on correctly again  , but didn't want to go there if I didn't have to

Thanks

Yes the wiring on the Drivers door and the loom if damaged will affect the passenger door.
There are two stock standard faults the door switch itself, and broken wires in the loom, its will almost certainly be one or the other going on past experience. Do you have a multi-meter available ?
The two wires in the drivers door of concern are the Orange and the Red with White stripe, make sure that the passenger door LOCK switch is closed (i.e allows the window to operate) both wires should have continuity to ground (Black wire) when the window switch NOT operated. If there isn't continuity then the switch is faulty or the Earth connection is broken in the wiring loom. If that is OK, then go to the Passenger door side and place the meter on 20 Volt range, check both the Red and the Green wires there should be Zero volts, again check for continuity to ground when the Drivers side switch is NOT operated if there isn't any continuity then the wires are broken - recheck the drivers side loom at the loop at the bottom ....
If all is still OK, then check the RED an GREEN wires for 12 volts when the either switch is operated you should see volts in one position or the other and the other wire will have 12 volts in the other positions, if not then the switch is again faulty on the side that doesn't cause 12 volts to appear.
