Hi,
The figures that they have quoted are probably for a new head plus the bits and pieces (hence the tree)
I would imagine that this would be a reasonable price if so.

All this driving around is probably not doing your Bongo any favours, but if you aren't happy with Bongobits' pricing, get a second opinion and see what Allan says http://www.allansvehicleservices.co.uk/. I and many others would take our Bongos to no-one else (just search "Allan" on here to see what high esteem we hold him in).
£370 + VAT sounds more like the price for a complete head kit, rather than a head gasket kit. Like you, I have no idea what a water tree is but it sounds like the sort of thing you might have in your garden for summer evenings!!

I'm sure someone who knows what they are talking about will help you out in a moment. Sadly, there are a few on here who have been through what you are going through

I know its not doing it any favours and maybe will consider taking it to Allans, (Love the water tree Alison01326!!)
But I am sure that he said it was the head gasket kit, although I will check that out 2mrw.

Putting things in prespective, mine has recently had a similar hissy fit.
Pressure test (failed) New complete head, gasket set & headbolts, piston rings, exhaust manifold, a couple of pipes, cambelt & tensioner, waterpump, exhaust, oil, antifreeze, labour + VAT = £1561.92.
BB's quote seems sensible.

Hi,
The tree that they are talking about will be the(believe it or not)the Branch pipe in the side of the head, the one that your bleed hose fits onto.
I love Plants.

Re: aghhh just overheated
how long does a pressure test take??
I thought if the cylinder head was gone it would be un-driveable, and that the gasket would have to come off to check the head?

Re: aghhh just overheated
Not at all. Mine had probably been running with a microscopic crack for weeks. Looking back it had been a little gutless for a while & there were a couple of times when it appeared to be running hotter than normal, I'd put that down to the hotter weather.randombit wrote:I thought if the cylinder head was gone it would be un-driveable
It passed a sniffer test initially but turned out to have the teeniest of splits by the precombustion chamber on No.2

Re: aghhh just overheated
anybody know how long a pressure test should take
Re: aghhh just overheated
Are you asking about a pressure test of the system, of a pressure test of the head itself?

Re: aghhh just overheated
both please

Re: aghhh just overheated
A system pressure test doesn't take long, it can be done cold and hot, so depending on what's done (and whether the vehicle's cold or hot when the tests start), I'd estimate probably less than a full hour...approx. A pressure test for the head itself means the head would have to come off, so you'd need to factor that in.

back on it now tho so am looking for a radiator for the van, opinions please guys on the best place to go
there are places selling them for 115, but is it worth it as I know that is a lot less than some places, is the quality comparable?
