How do you take the alternator off?

Post by RobnKathryn » Sun Aug 27, 2006 4:19 pm

I need to get access to drill out manifold stud, and want to take the alternator off. I've taken off the adjuster and the big nut/bolt at the base where it pivots, so it swings on it's pivot comfortably but I can't seem to take it right off....where it pivots is there a sleeve that the bolt runs through which needs to be drifted out or what?

I'm sure you just remove the bolt(s) that pass thru the sleeve & it comes off quite easily - didn't recall having to get anything "serious" out the tool box.

If its any help, I managed to drill out the stud without removing the alternator-I used an extension bar in the drill, which had to be positioned hard against the outside frame, with the bar passing close to the alternator. Also, I found the stud material was extremely hard, only cobalt drill bits would touch it!
It wasn't me, Guv; a big boy done it and ran away!
