Changing Roof tent
Hi there,
We're about to change our roof tent as the one on the van we bought has no fly sheet! Someone had cut it out...
So I bought a pretty decent second hand one.
I was just wondering if there was a fact sheet/work through sheet or a post showing how to change it over. I'm a member here so can login etc but can't seem to find a specific post.
We have assumed (maybe wrongly) it's not that harder job and it's simply a matter of removing the frame from around the van lid and then slotting in the new tent, then doing the same below.
We'll see! Won't be doing it till the van comes back from having a broken manifold stud removed and new gasket etc so a bit of reading would be good to fill the hours waiting for it's return!
Cheers
Dave.

Re: Changing Roof tent
Make sure you use a P3 screwdriver for the upper screws, thats the BIG philips type as a P2 will round out the screws. put roof 3/4 up, then using a P2 undo the bottom plastic pop out screws, when bottom is loose use P3 to go round the top, the front corners are quite tricky so use a 3/8 ratchet with driver attatchment if you have 1, i start at the back and work to the front, dont worry if some of the inserts come with the screws/roof you can just undo them after and glue back in, i normally leave the middle front for last, after all screws are undone, drop the tent down and release the 2 springs at the back and it should come away nice n easy and as they say in the Haynes bibles, refitting is the reverse of removal lol

Re: Changing Roof tent
Also I believe there are two different types of roof tent, on the later models, the AFT goes up a little higher so I would assume the tent is bigger but hopefully someone can confirm this

What excellent advice. Another factsheet needed. Most (all) advice on the forum (not checked factsheets as don't have pswd to hand but...) has warned how difficult it is, but none (as far as I can recall) has actually given much hope that those screws can actually be undone by mortal man or woman. Thank you, from all of us321Away wrote:Make sure you use a P3 screwdriver for the upper screws, thats the BIG philips type as a P2 will round out the screws. put roof 3/4 up, then using a P2 undo the bottom plastic pop out screws, when bottom is loose use P3 to go round the top, the front corners are quite tricky so use a 3/8 ratchet with driver attatchment if you have 1, i start at the back and work to the front, dont worry if some of the inserts come with the screws/roof you can just undo them after and glue back in, i normally leave the middle front for last, after all screws are undone, drop the tent down and release the 2 springs at the back and it should come away nice n easy and as they say in the Haynes bibles, refitting is the reverse of removal lol

Re: Changing Roof tent
Thanks a lot. Great advice. The Mrs spent the other night cleaning the tent up and it's come up a treat.
We're getting the van back tomorrow and will let you know how we get on. Need to buy a POP Rivet gun to put those rivets back in . . .

Drummiedave, there's more advice on the forum from Rhod, about the pop rivets ON THIS LINK.
Allans Garage retired. Try PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services Plymouth
Re: Changing Roof tent
Hi there, spent sunday afternoon changing it all over and it went very well. We used the guide from the link here which was very helpful.
I took some piccies and have posted them on facebook but I'm not sure they can be viewed unless I'm connected with someone.
Here is the link.
