Many thanks for all of your kind replies, I put my thinking cap on on reading some of the posts and found that the inside door handle was held on by a cir-clip, and came off easily, after that the job was easy ...thanks again

For your info, I got a handle from www.centralmotors/london.com who seem to have the only sliding door handle spare in the country
