External Sliding door handle
Hi all
Like an idiot, I forced my door handle and it came off in my hand, and thought it would be easy to replace having bought a new one.
Any tips on how to do this, I started to remove the internal panel on the door, but cannot get any further as I do not want to force the inside door handle....is it easy to remove?
Being a humble electrician, this is not really my forte, and any help will be greatly received, or alternatively, any professionals in the Northants area who can do this for me?
Many thanks
Serge

Re: External Sliding door handle
Its actually quite easy but I've all but forogtten how I did it (several times!). Obviously the panel retaining screws have to be removed (3 from memory, one of them inside the door grab recess. Then hte panel has to be coaxed up as its top is engaged along the window bottom line. The door handle can be coaxed through its cutout in the panel by pulling it out first, then roatating it a bit (the linkage allows that, you should not have to use force) so it can then slip throught the cut-out.serge wrote:Hi all

I had to remove mine when repairing a wing mirror. There's some pics of the door interior with trim panel removed at:

...and you can see clearly that the internal handle is still in place with panel removed.
Good luck - come back if need be.

Sorry - read the content, forgot the thread heading (hint to posters - its better not to rely on header alone as it scrolls off screen very easily and for peeps like me with a gnats memory this is not a good thing)

Back on track then.
Do as Mike suggests but on the door without the wing mirror, this seems to be the way to go.

Re: External Sliding door handle
Unfortunately the sliding door panel is totally different to the front door inner panel, if you look on the factsheet on "Sliding door" in the members area - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... ngdoor.pdf it explains how to get the inner door handle off & then the panel so you can access the internals.

It's there for anyone to find, doesn't always have to be me that goes & looks

That's true. But remember, for the Bongomaster's special award of Bongonaut of the year, all evidence is crucial.......missfixit70 wrote:It's there for anyone to find, doesn't always have to be me that goes & looks

I don't think anyone can match Kirsty's diligence, speed and accuracy on finding out stuff. But she can't be expected to spoonfeed (new) members all the time. The search routine is not perfect but it is worth learning how to use it. The more astute amongst you will have noticed my favourite response is 'hopefully someone will be along with the answer but in the meantime its worth having a search on X AND Y'. Essentially, with the growing volume of data on here, you may well get your answer quicker than waiting for someone to respond. Its like that old thing about the difference between feeding the third world or - instead - teaching them how to grow crops. Its the second one that brings the best result longterm for the community. Kirsty can't be here 24/7 (though she comes close!)Ian wrote:That's true.
