Starter motor contacts

Post by Tessie » Sat Apr 03, 2010 10:36 am

Just got new starter solenoid contacts but would appreciate some confirmation as to which way round they go. On my starter the elongated contact is on the battery lead side of the solenoid but the photos in the fitting instructions that came with the contacts set show the elongated contact on the side with the fixed lead into the starter motor. Which side is correct?
Never run out of road, traction and ideas at the same time.

Can't help personally except:
  • is there a factsheet in the members area?
  • will it become obvious when you strip down the starter motor and look at how things are arranged?
  • I seem to recall the replacement kit is not suitable for starter motors on the twin battery cold weather Bongos as they have a different more powerful starter motor
Hopefully someone else can help, and good luck [-o<

Basically put em in the same way they came out, you'll probably find they don't line up if you do it differently. I did mine about 18 months ago, but couldn't tell you which way around from memory.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

I thought you would be along before too long Kirsty =D> . If I had bothered to look a bit closer #-o  I would have realised that, as you say, the contacts can only be fitted one way so that they match up to the plunger hole. It would seem then that the photos in the instructions that came with the contacts kit are of a different (not a Bongo) solenoid, although it looked that same :-s

Just for the record, the elongated contact is fitted to the battery lead side of the solenoid.......well it is on mine anyway :-k

I had a look at the factsheet and video but they didn't help with which way round the contacts went.....now I know they didn't need to

Thanks to you all for your quick replies =D>

No probs and glad you got it sorted. Sounds like bullet point 2 gave the answer (i.e. will it become obvious when you strip down the starter motor and look at how things are arranged) 8)
