That's how Haydn's Low coolant Alarm works (with very small currents), but you need to be very careful about putting too much current into the coolant or you'll get electrolysis which has the potential to cause all sorts of corrosion type issues internally, cheap options can end up expensive if you're not carefull
Yeah, wouldn't want to turn the coolant into hydrochloric acid  LOL The bloke is a slightly bonkers physicist, but he used to rig up similar devices on 4x4s when he lived in Saudi & Africa. We did talk about having a low enough current though.

OK. I need to get this coolant thing sorted.

I'm all set for the weekend.
1 x new thermostat
5L antifreeze
Holts 2 stage rad flush.
UV dye.
UV light.
Oh and 1 x father with huge workshop, carlift & loads of tools.
And most of all loads of advice & kind offers of help from you guys :D

So, the plan is this.
Take out stat.
Flush system without the stat.
Replace the stat.
Replace coolant-add UV dye.
Bleed properly.
Shine UV light around to double check for leaks.

Does this sound like a plan? I have printed off all fact sheets, advice & diagrrams too.

Now a couple of questions....
Is it worth removing the heater matrixes & giving them a separate flush? Are they easy to remove?

Now, re-filling with coolant.......I''ve noticed there are some differing opinions forum wide.
What is the best approach to re-filling?

While I'm at it I'm going to do an oil & filter change too....BTW do people tend to flush the engine too?

So hopefully after the first week of setbacks we should be bongoing away nicely soon [-o<
