HELP!From 4 wheel to 2 wheel drive

I have made my Bongo a two wheel drive by undoing 8 bolts and removing the shorter rear prop shaft. This has stopped the back wheels having power .When i read the techie info on this job it sounded much more complicated.I am therefore worried that i have done something very wrong!Can anybody advise!?Thanks.Lorraine

IMO you're going to very quickly fubar the Viscous Coupling which you're taking all the drive through.

Because the factsheet is explaining how to disconnect the front wheel drive, making it a rear wheel drive vehicle, yours is now a front wheel drive vehicle.

I agree!
This is how they sometimes tow in a 4WD on a 'spec lift' recovery vehicle and they don't drive well with that prop disconnected.
I'd put it back together.

My understanding is drive is normally to the rear wheels, with some oomph being diverted to the front wheels when it senses the back ones slipping.

I think you may well be in for trouble very soon with this set up.

Exactly right in my opinion. The 4x4 unit viscous coupling will overheat very quickly leaving you with no drive & an expensive repair bill. Don't use the vehicle like this. If you want to convert it to 2 wheel drive (why??) then remove the front propshaft as stated earlier. 4x4 Bongo's are a rear wheel drive vehicle with the front wheels only driving when needed (via the viscous coupling) - very very simply put. Other vehicles (Honda CRV, Rav4 etc.) are the other way round.

agree with alacrity, any time i've ever seen it done its always been the front drive thats been disconnected, or it can lead to problems, removing the front drive prop is only marginally more difficult than the back
