buy a new radiator for piece of mind. i thought my system was ok till i stripped it down, not surprised it was struggling with the crud in the rad. i always use distilled water in the coolant system. also currently using the pink o.a.t antifreeze in the system. halfords had it in. just make sure that you completely flush out the old pipes before adding new antifreeze as mixing some different ones will cause a reaction and create more problems.
the radiator is easy to change but remember to check the gearbox oil level as the cooler is in the bottom of the radiator and its imposssible to do without loosing some of it.
i also changed the stat on ours at the same time and now its a different baby. we were loosing coolant on a regular basis after going up a steep hill with the mason alarm bleeping but now even towing a caravan with foot to floor on a hill it hardly moves.
there are companys that can repair the radiators but by the time they have resealed it and recored to remve the cruds its not gonna be worth it imho.
