airbag problem

Post by naomibarrett » Wed Nov 18, 2009 9:11 pm

can anyone help me. I have a flashing red airbag warning light coming on from time to time. I have read the manual and its says i need to go to my dealer. Is there any way this problem can be solved by myself.

Airbags only have a limited lifespan. chances are it or some ancillaries associated with it have got past their Best before date.

How to disable the warning lamp was covered recently here

I don't there is much you can check, other than that the connectors to the Bags and to the control box are fully plugged in - have you had any work done on the vehicle recently ?
The control box is mounted under the dashboard roughly in-line but to the right a little of the gear stick, it controls the dashboard light directly, it has only one connector on it, and the wiring loom is pretty much direct to the bags with connectors at the bags themselves, the steering wheel also has an additional connector on the column to allow its removal.

Isn't this light a warning light there to warn you that there is a problem with the SRS system. Therefore isn't simply disconnecting the light a bit of a Homer Simpson thing to do as the fault will still be there and could cause the system to fail to deploy if you were in an accident or even to deploy in error?

I would agree with that ! The thread discussed stopping the light flashing when the steering wheel was replaced with a non-SRS wheel i.e. no air bag installed.
