I bought a new head about 20K ago, and have been very pleased with the result.

It went at about 180K km, and my garage said that there was an outside chance it was the engine rather than the head, as it is so complex to test the head, but it seems to have been fine, taken it on several long journeys since.

Is the whole engine new or reconditioned? I was a bit put off reconditioned engines by a few of the stories on the forum, where when it didn't work, the engine suppliers said "it is the way that the person you got to fit the engine did it, our engine was fine".

I decided that if I did go that way, I'd go to the people supplying the engine to have it fitted, so I could say "I don't care why it doesn't work , it's your fault - fix it."

Hope that helps.

Hi
That sounds very interesting...some members have had problems with "pattern" heads, but they weren't Japanese...If you do use one, let us know, and how easy they are to find...It may help one or two in the UK

There was an interesting discovery by someone on here recently that some pattern heads don't have a reccess in the head where the cam cover bolts sleeves/spigot fit. This would indicate to me how good the copy is......................
