As an aside, I got into the habit of putting the windscreen silver screen up every time I parked up while abroad, makes a hell of a difference, only takes a few seconds, hold it inplace with the sun visors, means my cubby box sweeties don't melt too

Another thought about the sun sensor. Is it there to stop cold aircon output being applied to the inside of the windscreen when hot sun is hitting the outside, to prevent differential thermal stress and possible weakening or even cracking?
Extract from "US Patent 5857536 - Sun sensing arrangement and method of arranging a sun sensor in a motor vehicle":
"It is generally known to arrange one or several sun sensors in a motor vehicle which sense sunlight radiated onto the motor vehicle with respect to its intensity and optionally also with respect to its radiation direction and which supply the information obtained from this or these sensor(s) as an analog or digital signal to an interior-temperature control device so that the control device will be capable of controlling the temperature of the interior of the motor vehicle as a function of the sun radiation."
...and here's an abstract from the article "Sensor Technology for the Air Conditioning System" published in DENSO Tech Review (2004)*:
"Abstract; Car air conditioner has a temperature sensor, humidity sensor, sun load sensor, and air purity sensor. Some technologies to correctly detect target value are required to eliminates unexpected disturbance. This paper introduces the sun load sensor to detect thermal load of sun to vehicle and crew, humidity sensor to realize fuel consumption saving and amenity, air purity sensor to detect vehicle emission to introduce clean air into the room, and presssure sensor to control refrigerent cycle stable in engine idling condition."
Anyone know if the Bongo has a pollen filter and/or the air purity sensor mentioned here?
