Help please for Bongo Fury mate in Birmingham (Dudley)

Post by Eat Aunt » Wed Jun 10, 2009 8:18 pm

Greetings Earthlings

Is there a fellow Bongolier who can help a BongoFury member in Birmingham.... (Dudley to be more precise)

His Fan Heater motor has by the sounds of it siezed up, probably due to water ingress from the usual dreaded blocked drain hole at the base of the windscreen...

A garage has removed the air intake etc and confirmed the motor is fairly well seized

If I was nearer I would nip round and do it, but am hoping someone nearer could pop round and see if the motor just needs the regulation removal, freeing up and greasing up and refitting....

If that fails where is the best place for Brian to obtain a new fan motor / resistor ?

Thanks folks in anticipation

It's not quite Dudley, but Ian at Market Drayton may be able to help.
He's a ( Bongo) garage though, rather than a free of charge Bongoist.

Unless he's handy enough to tackle it himself with a factsheet then maybe one from a breakers yard, or from ebay (they come up quite regularly) and/or let Ian Taylor get one and then take it to Ian Taylor and let him do it - might be best option.

The resistor may just need re-soldering - when the motor seizes up the resistor overheats and some solder connections melt inside. It's a very easy repair if you are handy with a soldering iron - there's a fact sheet on it in the member's section.

I think the Fact Sheet's pretty good.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

If he wants to bring it here one evening next week, he is more than welcome. I did mine 18 months ago and it is still happy. I drilled a drain hole in the bottom of the bearing housing.
