What does this lot do? Diesel vacuum pump assembly.

Hi,

Whilst doing some work on the bongo over the weekend I noticed that some of the vacuum tubes on the vacuum pump assembly weren’t connected or were missing. I’ve found this diagram (see link) and worked out tube 20-341 wont connect to Z as the end is broken of Z , and that I’m missing tube 20-444 (you can find these in the centre and top left part of the diagram). The car is running fine so I don’t understand what this lot do and what effect it has on the engine/performance/economy with them in their current condition . Can anyone shed any light on their role …

I know my description is all a bit techie but i haven't got a hope of explaing the parts without the diagram!

these are to do with the egr valve on the left and the right one is for the aircon.

Does that mean my egr hasn't been working?

The aircon seems to be working fine - used it a lot last week.

i take it that these are on the drivers side.
to stop the egr valve working people have put a ballbearing into the pipe to stop the vaccumm. the right one will lift the revs up slightly when the aircon comes on, thats all ive found but maybe someone else will be on to help you.

OK. Thanks for that.

Just disabled the egr with a blanking plate so it wont make much difference.

Will check to see if my revs drop when i switch the aircon on - best repair the broken pipe to the right hand ones.
