help - bongo leaking from hose in engine bay

bought a bongo last week, had it serviced and looked over and everything seemed fine. I've managed a few short trips in it with no issues.

After the drive fromn portrush back to belfast today it started to leak. It didnt start leaking untill i parked it and turned the engine off - possibly a conicidence. I did notice that the temp needle did move about an eighth of an inch past center and then settle back down to an eighth of an inch just before centre - could this be a sticking thermostat and could this have added to the leak?

the leak is coming from a hose that enters the engin block underneath the drivers seat. The van is a 96 2.5 diesel and hasnt done many miles - 78k km - but i imagine that hoses perish.



any way - ill try and attach a photo.



? any help on posting an image would be good?

Hopefully this isnt to much of a problem, i've been recommended mazdabits in newtownards - any other recommendations would be good, i'm based in Holywood (N.Ireland)

Yes, I have had this trouble. I will have a look at some photos. I expect that by the time I write this someone else will beat me to it

Quite common for that hose to go, check all the rest & I'd think about fitting a coolant loss alarm from Haydn Callow on here, a search will reveal all. Also - do not rely on the temp gauge, it is so dumbed down, it's useless, fit a Mason Alarm whic resensitises it & provides a settable audible alarm.

do you recon its drivable? i'd be probably ten mins drive to get to a garage, about a litre came out which ill fill again before i leave.

As long as the water didn't go low enough to empty the expansion tank, you should be OK - otherwise, it will need bleeding.

The pipe inserted into the block where the hose is attached rusted on mine. Both were replaced, the hose(silicone) abd the pipe(stainless steel).

OK, just checked and the header tank is dry (the tank under the bonnet?) it was full this morning. I guess i'll nedd to bleed it

its not that bad to bleed

there's a factsheet on here that makes it all quite easy

Do not drive it till you have refilled it and BLED it...Unless the garage is experienced in Bongo's there is a good chance they will not do it right.
I know Holywood very well...spent 3 years there in a differant life. We have a (family)cottage in Castlerock and so I also know Portrush well.
Not many Bongos over there so finding one which can sort the cooling system will not be easy.

Factsheet in the members area on bleeding, get the hose & do it yourself it's easy to do the hose itself, make sure you flush the system thoroughly. Personally, wouldn't recommending driving it with a shot hose, full coolant loss can be catastrophic.
If the garage do it, please make sure they are fuly conversant with the coolant system - it is not "the same as any other car".

if it looks fairly managable i'll switch the hose and then refill and bleed, i guess at this point it could do with one of haydens alarms.
