Engine running cooler

Having recently had a play with a few bits on my bongo, I've had a chance to check it's performance driving to Santa Pod & back - it is now running at least 10 degrees cooler, as well as feeling like a new vehicle with a lot more poke. MPG is hard to measure this time as I was running the engine a lot over the 6 days I was away recharging LB & using the engine to heat the bongo, but I still got 27mpg as an average.
Several things were done to acheive this
1 - Radiator backflushed & Holts 2 part rad flush put through the cooling system with thermostat removed
2 - New thermostat fitted (tested in a pan of water - new one opened sooner than old one)
3 - Intercooler, pipework & air intake manifold cleaned/flushed/degunked
4 - ATF, pipework & cooler drained, filter & sump cleaned & refilled.

Running along the Puddletown Bypass doing 70mph +, I used to be able to get it to go up to 116 degrees & sometimes off scale (120 degrees). On the way up & then on the way back, I could not get it above 106 degrees - no matter how hard I tried (not telling you how hard )- that was fairly well loaded with my backbox on too. The temperature probe is fixed on the forward end of the exhaust manifold BTW.
The Mason assisted temperature gauge was showing just above 120clock.
I'm suspecting the new stat contributes most of this reduction in running temp, but I'm sure the other measures have contributed, either way - I'm much happier

Well clearly that's Mikexgough, Brora and me firmly in the Tesco can go stuff themselves club - who else?

Shame - as they've got a good gizmo for use in a Bongo on offer ATM.

Glad to hear that the cummulative overhauls have led to a less strained bongo kirsty!

I've been experimenting with my (thanks to DBO) switched engine & scavenger fan switch recently... It's re-assuring to know that i can pre-empt the ECU of switching the fans on should i envisage a long, hot climb up a hill. My reasoning being that it's better to keep cool, rather than make it cool.

Mines definitely running a lot cooler now after the core plug crisis. It had a couple of flush throughs and a new thermostat. Mason alarm stays at 1pm ish.

Well i know my scav fan still works after a run the other day & pulling up outside my garage, i turned the ignition to the glow warm up position (you know the one!) & i could hear it running..
With the mason fitted making the needle more responsive mine seems to run cooler in heavy traffic jams..?
