Harry Potter & the mystery of the missing warning lamp.

Post by jaylee » Tue Apr 07, 2009 5:33 pm

:-k Just been looking at the back of my dial pod.. :-k
Now i know the empty one at the top on the right is an AFT up warning light. (I have a tin top.)
But the one at the bottom next to the rear demist on light says belt.. & there's no bulb!
Now, i swapped bulbs & started the engine... It don't light up.. I guess it shouldn't.?
Or should it light up pre ignition check style like all the rest?

We all know why warning lamp bulbs are removed..

& bear in mind i've had no real problem in over two years.. (Except the top hose.)
What's the deal??

check the drivers seat, there should be a wire that goes onto the belt locking bit, dont know if they were optional extra but every bongo i have seen have them on.

When working correctly it stays on untill you put your seat belt on (well lock it)

Below the sediment light.. A lopsided triangle with a circle in each corner, like the belt on an engine..?

I'll add i have an SGL5 diesel 2.5 automatic. :D

Perhaps it's a light to tell you your cambelt has broken :?

Hi Jaylee,

I looked on mine a couple of months ago, when I re-did the speedo.

From memory, there were one-or-two bulbs spaces spare, I think it is a cam belt (replace me now!) warning light, but it's not wired in to the vehicle loom.

My thought at the time was that the back circuit board is probably used in different vehicles, and some have it connected, some dont.

I was going to re-use the spare place for a rear fog light, but thought a light with "belt" lighting up might not pass the MOT :?

I wouldn't worry about it, I've found loads of connectors that do nothing !

Yup, that's the one!

If you follow the pcb copper track from the lampholder to the edge connector, I'm sure you'll find there's no wiring to it.

I'm taking mine off this next week to replace a bulb, I can double check then.

Cheers fer that.! I was planning wiring a bulb (on a separate circuit) using the empty for another function..
If it has no purpose i will use it!
I was going to use the redundant AFT warning lens but that appears to be closed over even though there's a hole for a bulb at the back & i remember seeing the red lens on the front when i fitted the white dials a year or so back.

We've done the same stuff, Jaylee :D

I shone a torch down the spare holes as well, and you're right, some are blanked off completely.

Scope for a bit of DIY lighting, I feel

Hi
Ah So!...now I see it ......DON"T CONNECT ANYTHING TO THAT ONE      ....just saved you in the nick of time.....it's the upside-down Japanese chastity belt warning light!!!!

Seriously, could it be something to do with the aircon belts....maybe indicating breakage....whatever it's for, I haven't got mine illuminating...but the idea of using all these spare warning lamp lenses appeals....I think I'll be sending for a box of LEDs and some switches :D :D :D
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Checked it out yer right... It's not connected to anything on mine, just a spare.!

Next time i come on here asking what the belt light means & is it a serious problem cuz it's lit.. tell me to turn my rear fog light off...!
