how much to drain it?

I filled it with 5 litres of diesel. I then must have filled it to the top with petrol after filling the green can from the green pump. I have never ever put the wrong fuel int he wrong car - even when driving one of each! but the can must have thrown me and I think it was just the end of a bad week - my brain is clearly not functioning. I didn't even realise I had done it!!

I don't know how much to drain it - I dont talk money with Mike. I tell him if its the sort of money I need to know about, let me know, if not, just do it. I trust him not to rip me off and have never been let down yet. I am more annoyed about the wasted fuel and really annoyed that she gave me a green can and that I was too tired to say anything about the green can than the cost of the work although I suppose that's irrational.

Quite right Cath. Mike will do his very best. Mine was due in for work tomorrow but you've bumped me out of my slot. No matter, mines a slow diesel drip and can wait. Good luck with Dydo.

Okay, so it's not just me then! I left home early this morning (lots of snow) to get to work on time, intending to call at the garage for some fuel. When I got there they were completely out of diesel! I drove to work as I was running out of time. On the way home I was on a very busy roundabout and the Bongo died on me. Luckily, I have a friend with a landy and loads of towing kit, so I called him and and he came straight out. I was only about 2 miles from home. I then called the Police as it seemed no-one was driving with their eyes open and I was worried there was going to be an accident (to those people who pushed their horn as they went past - are you blind??!!! Morons!). My friend towed me home and we went to get some diesel. Took a while to start the Bongo but got there in the end. I've just had to drive the dog to the vet (not a good day) and it seemed to drive alright. I may check the fuel filter out tomorrow though, just in case (given what's been written above). The Police thought I was a bit dopey, but I did explain that the garage had no fuel and I was just driving to the next one!

I'll always be carrying some extra fuel from now on, just in case (and filling up much, much earlier). What a day!

Ok I now feel slightly better
The annoying thing is - I hadn't realised I was low on fuel as I have been having one of those weeks. If I had been winging it I may have deserved it but I literally got no warning. I didn't even realise I was low on fuel.

As for carrying spare fuel - I wish I hadnt bothered. If I had come home and filled up later I would probably have forgotten to fill the can and never would have the problem.

Ah - school run without the car - going to be interesting.

Main thing is its getting sorted, no one got hurt in this, you will have it back tomorrow.

We all make silly mistakes and get annoyed with ourselves afterwards, don't beat yourself up about it.

Oh I know - its hubbymc who will be ripping the you know what all evening!!

Far more important things happenned today to let this get me down. its just money. Ok its my money, but at least it came from the tax man

I know it's annoying. It could have been much worse though! I hope everything gets sorted out easily and without costing a load of money.

Of course I did - and drove nearly all the way home. If it had died at the petrol station I may have realised what had happenned

Mrs M did that last summer. Stuck in £70 worth of Shell Ultimate 97 octane in. Managed about a mile before a rapid demise.

RAC man took us to a local garage who spent an hour manually pumping it out from the filler cap & the hose to the fuel filter & charged about thirty quid. Not bad until you factor in the lost £70 + another £70 to fill it up again. Thats a £170 tankfull!

I didn't

I paid £10 for the can and a full 5 litres of diesel (I was in no position to argue).

I then filled up the tank (55ltres) and the can(5litres)

all in all about £70.
