no battery warning light, no charge help needed fast
help needed fast, recently been repairing freda and i arced across alternator connection by accident, now i dont have a battery warning light and no charge going to batteries! have i blown a fuse somewhere? all the ones i can see seem fine which fuse would be in the circuit?
help greatfully appreciated as freda is stranded!!
cheers dave

Is everything else working? I can't see a specific fuse for just the alternator light

yes the alternator puts out a charge but i don't think its getting to batteries?? when i turn on ignition you usually have a battery light on the dash which illuminates then goes out when you start up unless theres a problem, well my light desent illuminate at all?! i would have thought there would be a fuse protecting the circuit?
cheers for help

What is the alternator putting out? Have you checked the main fuses under the bonnet? - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... usebox.pdf
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Do any of the dash lights illuminate?fordavefreda wrote:yes the alternator puts out a charge but i don't think its getting to batteries?? when i turn on ignition you usually have a battery light on the dash which illuminates then goes out when you start up unless theres a problem, well my light desent illuminate at all?! i would have thought there would be a fuse protecting the circuit?

all fuses under bonnet seem fine which ones the alternator fuse?

What makes you think it's not getting to the battery? Do the headlamps go brighter when you rev the engine? It may just be a blown bulb.

Don't know, as I said earlier, there isn't an obvious fuse covering that circuit.fordavefreda wrote:all fuses under bonnet seem fine which ones the alternator fuse?

Don't think there is an alternator fuse, isn't it cabled direct to the battery? I think you may have fubarred the alternator.fordavefreda wrote:all fuses under bonnet seem fine which ones the alternator fuse?
Have you measured voltage output from alternator? is it high 13 to 14+volts?

I think you may be right kirsty, i'm sure the alternator is fuesd via the main starter battery, i think it's the big blue fuse rated at 100 amps that lives in the little box bolted to the battery.

if that fuse was to blow would that cause the battery light not to work? if i think back i think it looks ok but that could be differenr it might look ok but, i'll have to get out the multimeter! when i do a charging check do i just stick the multimeter to the battery and start up and see if theres an increase in voltage?

I'd imagine so dave, if it's blown then the circuit is incomplete. Often those big fuses can pop at the narrow end, and can often appear (visually) to be fine. I'd definitely check for continuity of the fuse with your multimeter.fordavefreda wrote:if that fuse was to blow would that cause the battery light not to work?

Sorry, i missed that bit!
Use the multimeter to check that fuse too dave.
