intermitent rev counter blues.....

got those old rev counter blues........ hi everyone,thought the old girl was behaving herself too well because i havent had to log in for a wile,but just to reassure me i am a bongo owner the glow plugs i put in in the spring are going and every now and again my rev counter stops and i get a fault code flashing,i"ve had the dash out and checked contacts but im starting to think tps sensor maybe.......any thoughts anyone ?...and by the way happy new year to you all and lets get that sun shining this summer........neil

keep an eye on your speedo as mine did that a couple of years ago and had to have a new chip put in for speedo costs around £75
I NOW HAVE AN ASTRA JUST THE BONGO TO FIND A NEW HOME THEN I AM OUT OF HERE

as far as i know mr b its not chipped unless you mean the original factory chip ????

When my rev counter played up, speedo went iffy shortly after, then alternator went, be worth just checking it's chucking out full voltage.
Have you done the fault code thing to check what the code is? Check the factsheets for a how to.

mine has the chip to convert it from kph to mph thats the chip that went on mine

i hope its not the alternator,i had reason to go into a box/file type thing that i keep paperwork in the other day and the bit that keeps the bongo receipts in had exploded and whilst collating them i coudnt help counting some of them......scary.....im not moaning or ought but jesus.......all im saying is dont look people it will make yer eyes water.....

Had that symptom twice on LDV engines. Altenator both times.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

i dont understand how the alternator and rev counter are related surely its a tps or electrical contact type thing,but im no expert also im 90% sure the spedo is not affected,i will check out the alt" output though,is it possibly the belts ?????

Have a check at the wiring connectors going to the CENTRE coolant sensor on the head - it tells the ECU it's info. I found a bad connection on a friends bongo which caused the hold light to flash and the tachometer to drop.

not yet,family issues to be sorted last weekend but hopefully will fit new glow plugs and look at the rev counter next weekend,funny though since i put up that post no fault code.......but i think i also need to check out the rad fan sensor as advised by dandy warhol when i replaced my water pump ages ago,i recon by next xmas i"ll have a new van.will post results asap.....neil....
