True, but in the old days of crappy dynamos (that we can remember too well!) you were virtually faced with a choice. Use headlights in slow traffic and watch your battery go flat, or use sidelights only. If the LEDs are bright enough, they might just be OK in dense suburban slowish situations. And I'd love to do the sums (which no-one seems to do) on what level of carbon emmisions result from excessive use of light e.g. Volvos running round all day with headlights onfrancophile1947 wrote:Thanks Mike - I always think it's dangerous to drive on parking lamps only. They tend to "disappear" when you're being followed by one of those extra bright German headlamps.mikeonb4c wrote:francophile1947 wrote:Serious question - why would anybody want bright parking lights?
But seriously, I guess they would make it much more practical to drive on sidelights only on roads where sidelights only is allowed. And being LED, there would be a useful energy saving over headlight usage?
I remember the days of dynamos - traffic jams, wipers and headlights - just pray you didn't stallmikeonb4c wrote:True, but in the old days of crappy dynamos (that we can remember too well!) you were virtually faced with a choice. Ah, now there you have a very good point indeed. They are fuel inefficient, contribute to carbon footprint through causing more replacement parts to be made, energy consuming in their construction, cause noise pollution etc. etc.francophile1947 wrote:I think the extra emissions are far less than making us do 20mph in built up areas (except around schools whilst they're open) and those damned speed bumps![]()
