C.V.'s seem the obvious shot there Chief, have you checked for any visual tell tale signs of wear?

Assuming it's a 4WD model, then Mister M's diagnosis seems the most likely.
Find an empty car park and drive slowly in circles on full lock both ways. The sound is pretty obvious - a clicking/knocking/graunching noise (depending on how bad it is!)

9 times out of 10, the CV joint fails as a result of a damaged boot to the OUTER cv. This can be inspected visually, look for the rubber "spring"chief wiggam wrote:Hope someone can help me with this. When turning left and right from a standing start there,s a knocking noise coming from the front of my Bongo could this be c.v joints or more major.

If it does turn out to be the constant velocity joint(s) at fault, make sure the garage don't fit those "sleeve over" type boots, or those pesky plastic tie wraps...Me no like....

And of course, don't let your garage re-use the old boots... Na-ah!

Not especially I believe - others will be on here to advise shortly I'm sure (I'm 2WD so don't have the problem)chief wiggam wrote:Thanks you guys.....Is it an expensive job to put right if it is c.v's
Re: knocking noise when steering
Would this be good time (and be more cost effective?) to convert to 2WD?

Re: knocking noise when steering
Nah, its not that drastic... I think my c.v joint cost somewhere in the region of £70...ish.

Hi BDC where did you get your cv joint from, as our bongo sounds like it needs replacing
