C.V.'s seem the obvious shot there Chief, have you checked for any visual tell tale signs of wear?

Bit of a ball ache to change but a garage with the right gear should sort it pretty swiftly.

Assuming it's a 4WD model, then Mister M's diagnosis seems the most likely.

Find an empty car park and drive slowly in circles on full lock both ways. The sound is pretty obvious - a clicking/knocking/graunching noise (depending on how bad it is!)

9 times out of 10, the CV joint fails as a result of a damaged boot to the OUTER cv. This can be inspected visually, look for the rubber "spring" :P On the front driveshaft,a split may not be immediately obvious, but splatterd grease around the wheelarch will be.

If it does turn out to be the constant velocity joint(s) at fault, make sure the garage don't fit those "sleeve over" type boots, or those pesky plastic tie wraps...Me no like.... [-X

And of course, don't let your garage re-use the old boots... Na-ah! [-X

Not especially I believe - others will be on here to advise shortly I'm sure (I'm 2WD so don't have the problem)

Would this be good time (and be more cost effective?) to convert to 2WD?

Nah, its not that drastic... I think my c.v joint cost somewhere in the region of £70...ish.
