I have a diesel which is making a horrid tinking noise, it was just when cold but now its ALL the time and I daren't drive it!
Can't get it looked at til Monday.
Could anyone please tell me what the valve clearance should be, both for inlet and out. Thanks so much!

Sorry, don't know the figures, but there is an engine manual (on CD) available from the Club Shop for £3

Inlet 0.1mm +/- 0.005mm
Exhaust 0.2mm +/- 0.05mm

Which raises an interesting (for me!) point.
Do Bongo diesel valve clearances need checking likethe old cars did, with a feeler gauge. I'd assumed they were self adjusting and didn't need any serviceing checks

They's adjustable and have probably never been touched since they left the factory Mike
When I changed the cambelt I took the cover off, adjusted the tappets (they were ALL slack)and cured the oil leak at the cover - a good few hours spent
Engine as quiet as a 20,000 miler a friend has AND feels a bit sharper now it's breathing a bit better
