Valve Clearance question...

Post by muddypaws » Tue Nov 11, 2008 10:32 am

I have a diesel which is making a horrid tinking noise, it was just when cold but now its ALL the time and I daren't drive it!

Can't get it looked at til Monday.

Could anyone please tell me what the valve clearance should be, both for inlet and out. Thanks so much!

Sorry, don't know the figures, but there is an engine manual (on CD) available from the Club Shop for £3 :D

Which raises an interesting (for me!) point.

Do Bongo diesel valve clearances need checking likethe old cars did, with a feeler gauge. I'd assumed they were self adjusting and didn't need any serviceing checks :?

They's adjustable and have probably never been touched since they left the factory Mike
When I changed the cambelt I took the cover off, adjusted the tappets (they were ALL slack)and cured the oil leak at the cover - a good few hours spent :D

Engine as quiet as a 20,000 miler a friend has AND feels a bit sharper now it's breathing a bit better :D
