what type hydraulic lifters on v6 petrol, and how to remove?
hi all,
tomorrow i am intending to remove the rocker covers on my tappetty v6,and hope to inspect the camshafts for wear........hopefully there won`t be any,or it`ll be minimal, and so then i`ll remove the camshafts and then the hydraulic lifters.can anyone advise me in advance of any problems i may encounter?what type are the lifters on the v6?the flat`dish`type,or the longer`bullet`type, and are there any tips for removal, dismantling or cleaning etc.
thanks
jamie

Trouble is Jamie, there's still not that many V6s around that have had this type of work done on them.

hi,
i can be a gineau pig then!!i hope to remove the rocker covers and take it from there.i will take pictures at each stage, partly to help me when reassembling, and partly to post pics on here for advice as to whether anything`s worn etc.
at least that`s the plan.i don`t have a driveway and have to work in the street.some git parked outside my house and the bongo is down the street.i hate working on cars outside other people`s houses,so i`m waiting for someone to move their car.meanwhile, the missus wins as i`ll be tiling the kitchen!!not as interesting, but less espensive if something goes wrong!
i`ll let you know how it goes.(the bongo, not the tiling!)
thanks

Hi Jamie they are the bullet type, some of the ones they took out of mine looked like they had been chewed! is it worth going to all that trouble without having some replacements if they are as bad as mine

Hi Jamie, yes Hillside did change them under warranty but the engine is still a bit noisy
when i start it from cold you can hear the tappets go quite after a few seconds but when driving i can hear a tappet ticking sound but only when the accelerator is pressed (load on the engine) when its coasting or ticking over the noise goes so iam now thinking it could be the fuel injectors
Does yours stay noisy all the time

I hear that tappeting noise when driving only, i've nailed it to the electric solanoid on the return valve to the carbon canistor(evap valve) goes away when coasting

Its under your passenger seat beside a big black canistar on the chasis , its all part of the EGR begs the question if it can be disconnected like our brother diesals, not sure on that one tho prob end up stinking of petrol like the olden day motors did, maybe one of our mechanical friends can enlighten usmanners wrote:Thanks for that, where is it and what does it look like![]()

Hi guys,
Regarding the EGR disconnection, I researched that alot and didn't find anything useful. I did try and unplug the wire that goes to the EGR, didn't make any difference that I could tell other than throw up an error code in the ECU.
Hoggman, for the parts give these guys a call:
Holdcroft Mazda for paint etc Ashley Smith on 01782 202330
Regards
Andy

Any fuel fumes, tank injection system etc. must (legally) vent to the charcoal filter canister and then its recycled into the system.
Why not wrap the soleniod in foam???
