Well folks, I got the connector and got the stereo out, but, the connector didn't fit. Got mate who is an audio expert around and went to Halfords, but they had nothing to fit, so he kindly hard wired it -just like the good old days!
Problem is - the rear speakers still don't work ,which makes me think they are disconected at speaker.
Question: How do I get to rear speakers to check? Can I prize the covers off.....or would that just be too simple?

Re: Changing the stereo
Take the side panels off..Remove the seat belt bolta by the tailgate and "prise" the panels off. Easy job
Re: Changing the stereo
Do I have too? I was hoping for a simpler solution. Taking panels off scares me to death - frightened it wont go back right.

Dead easy...go for it.
Re: Changing the stereo
They come off easily, I was anticipating trouble like you but once you start you will see how simple it is. The drivers side rear panel was impossible to remove completely on mine but you can get to everything you want to. just pull it off all round and fiddle. The speakers are mounted on the body and the grills fit on top so it has to be done i'm afraid.
While you are in there you can usefully do two jobs in one! Buy a spray can of waxoyl and spray down and around the wheel arches, cos that is where they will rust from in a couple of years! Mine did after 3 years. Go mad with the stuff, it's the condensation or something that causes it.
Tell us how pleased you are when you have done it!
Cheers,
Tim

I found a superb bit of shareware called 'audacity'. Can be used to conert analogue to wav, MP3 and other things I don't understand. Search Audacity and you will fine it.
I use the program for (even though its naughty) recording plays off BBC7 and Radio 4 to my Sat nav Navigo and listen to them when on long journeys.
