Cheers Kirsty. So which one is the sender unit? And what are the others?

The whole assembly is the sender unit Ian - the electrical connector is top right, there's a fuel feed and return plus 2 breather pipes by the look of it - one probably for the fuel filler neck.

The unit is replaced as a complete assembly but most problems are with a bad earth. The easiest remedy is to make and connect a short piece of wire with an eylet on it at one end to attach to one of the crosshead screws - the other end to a suitable earthing point on the body - jobs a carrot! :D
