My Bongo died today

:cry: Driving along in the sun aircon keeping me nice and cool 40mph, then glowplug light came on for a second and autobox changed down, after that it went back to normal for a mile or so. Then it died. 8-[ When I tried to start it there was no glowplug light on. Eventually traced the problem to the stop valve not energising. Zapped it with 12v and it opened, got onto my drive put it in park and it died again. Now fuse 9 wires run though my Hawk thatcham cat1 alarm so I bypassed it and the Bongo is alive \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ so it looks like it is a continuity or alarm problem. Anyone else had this problem with the Hawk alarm?

Sounds like the immobiliser works....but at the worng time mate.... :roll: :roll:

I hate all alarm/immobilisers, I have never had a vehicle that
the alarm as not given some problem or another although
if you get stuck the local scum bag will no doubt have it
running in about 30 secs.

I'm somewhat inclined to that view also and am very happy with a sturday steering lock (which others on here have said is a better all round deterrent). I'm toying with remote central locking though as I guess you still have the option of overriding it with the key.

So loathe am i of those little scratches that occur around locks, that i dropped my bongo off at the car alarm place for cat2 alarm/immobiliser/remote locking thingy before i even got my bongo home upon purchase,no probs with alarm here so far.... In fact, as far as i'm aware, not once have i put the key in any of the locks yet,bar the ignition.

It would seem that there is a contact problem in the alarm as I was getting 1.5v on my meter instead of 12v. So contact Hawk alarms I thought, well I tried and tried and tried, engaged all day, still engaged now 9.00pm :shock: .
Hoping it is just a faulty line. :cry:

Glad you got it sorted, and was just the alarm....I've also had experiences with a well known make, and mistrust immobilisers. I use an alarm, and my own means of immobilising, and do not use the alarm's circuit, I also use a Disc-lock on the steering wheel.

Ok peeps update, their phone was working today so I spoke to the tec guy and he is happy to send me a new relay for the alarm. The other option was to return the alarm.
I'm going to get some advice when it arrives as to the possibility of it not being up to the job of handling the solenoid and has been arcing.
The problem started as an engine cut of a second or two and had happened a few times, I put this down to the veg system looped return drawing a little air in.
So if anyone has this system and starts getting the same symptoms remake your solenoid wire as standard. Remember this is a safety Critical problem as total loss of power in the outer lane of a motorway could prove fatal :shock:
This is a diesel problem only as the relay is used to trigger the fuel pump relay on a petrol engine.

I have central locking and I think its factory fitted. It works at a distance of about 20 feet and other than unlocking the car there is no other indication. This is the best way. The worst is when a scroat lifts your keys, goes outside into a car park with 500 cars , presses the button and a car 50 yards away flashes its lights and bleeps saying "Here I am".
