turbo timer behind the dash

I was having a root my new bongo recently found a techy looking black box behind the dash.
Are these standard on the Bongos?
If not does anyone else have one fitted?
and finally, what is it for?

not standard but allows the engine to keep running even after the keys have been taken out of the ignition. This is so the oil in the turbo has time to cool after a hard run. Some debate as to weather they are legal in the UK

If it is not wired in then you will not have noticed what it should do.
It keeps the engine running after turning off the ignition, this is to allow the Turbo to slow down to a safe speed before the engine cuts off.
What can happen if you do not let a Turbo vehicle idle before knocking off the engine, is you can introduce wear and tear into the Turbo bearings. Because the Turbo is so hot, after turning the engine off too soon, the Turbo continues to spin and the heat makes the oil viscosity thin. This then results in the oil dispersing before the Turbo has stopped spinning and it ends up running on almost dried out bearings.

I noticed that all the dip switches are up so off. I may try turning it on to see if it still works. Sounds alittle wierd to think the engine will run without the keys in !!

I've got one and there is a switch on it to turn it on and off (mine is usually off). I believe they are legal as long as you don't leave the vehicle until the engine stops.

I have a turbo timer fitted to mine, a decent one will sense if anything other than park is engaged,or even if the handbrake is released,or if the engine is revved, as soon as any of these occur, the engine will immediately shut down, regardless of whatever "run - on" time has been dialled in...

These are handy devices for cold morning starts too, if you switch the timer to 5 minutes,start the bongo and leave her ticking over for five minutes whilst you go into the house for your morning brew,the engine will be well on the way to being warmed up when you return with keys in hand Simply insert the key (if engine still running) switch to ignition, and away you go... I have mine switched for 30 seconds for "cool downs".

It shows a short and a long timer. How does it select or decide betweem either long or short?
What is the advise on selecting the length of the timers?

Your pics are showing the top of the timer oggy, is there a row of buttons on the front edge? If not, there may be a remote controller unit somewhere on/below the dash...

I think I might have got confused with my question !!
I understand the dip switch setting on the lower edge of the timer (not shown) and how to set these. It was meant more about how the thing works. i.e. If I set the timer to short 1 min and long 3 min how will the timer decide whether to run the engine at idle for short or long? Is it based on something like water temp ?
Not really relevant just curiosity of the techie stuff.
