Break fluid

Post by aughton9 » Mon Mar 10, 2008 3:01 pm

Afternoon Bongo Buddies.

Can anyone point me to information on removing and replacing the break fluid on my Bongo? I have looked at the factsheets and forums but cant find any info.

Cheers, Mark

Hi Mark
Never done it myself but I believe it's the same as any other vehicle.
Syphon most of the fluid from the reservoir and top up with fresh fluid. Starting with the wheel furthest from the reservoir, attach some clear plastic pipe over the bleed nipple, undo the bleed nipple and get somebody to pump the brake pedal until clear fluid flows, then tighten the nipple whilst they are pushing the pedal down. Repeat this with all 4 wheels ending with the one closest to the reservoir.
It's a lot easier if you get an Eezi-Bleed from the local motor factors - it's just a one man job then, although you may have to put extra washers in the Eezi-Bleeds reservoir cap to make it a good fit.

No need to syphon first John. Just pump it through at the first wheel.

Hope the weather improves
Forgot to mention to make sure that the reservoir is kept topped up or you'll suck air in to the system and have to start again :(

and also if you get one of the kits that fastens to a spare tyre then you will find it hard to get a good seal on the master resovoir

Yes Ian, but I find it's quicker (and less effort with the right foot  ) if you replace that in the reservoir first, cos' the dirty stuff is expelled with less pumps - also the old and new fluids don't mix so much when topping up..
