Funny squeaking noise

I know this is tricky without hearing the actual noise but, when my Bongo is cold and I drive off it squeaks in first and second. The squeak stops if I back off the accelerator and goes away when it warms up. I thought it might be the turbo and checked pipes etc and revved it up when stationary, no noise. Possibly also gearbox? Sounds like a higher pitched version of a loose fan belt. Any suggestions to solve this are welcome!!

maybe number 1 exhaust stud broken ? worth a look, mine was doing this, LEE

left hand side of engine just above alternator.

What can I say? I have only half a stud there!!! I am humbled by your expert diagnosis...(both of you) would I be right in thinking that it will be a fiddly job to get the stud out & replace?

Never done it myself but sure some one will have,
if you do a search you may fine a answer but from
other posts re the stud it seems it's not a bad job
to do.

No should be stright forward for a good mechanic

can be sorted without removing the manifold and cost about £100 or less

to do this yourself I rekon you would need to drill into the stud and use a stud extractor.

Not something I have had to do myself but its not an uncommon problem so maybe some one who has tackled this can advise

I drilled into the stud flooded it with WD 40 used a stud extractor and Bobs your Uncle. But!!! this was with the head off, I don't know if the un threaded part in the middle would actually come through the manifold. but it did come out easily, and you don't have to worry about drilling into the head, as the hole is open ended. In my case it was a waste of time, because on very close examination , the head was cracked. Incidently a cowboy garage replaced the head gasket on my Bongo, supposedly sent it for a skim, and yet when things started going wrong again, I noticed the broken stud, and we had been wondering where the mouse was. As it happened, it was a rat and he wasn't under the seat. Cheers Tom
