Lots of debate about this and whether uprated ones are illegal / MOT failure and/or may damage the (plastic) headlamp covers. If you have a Fender Defender Bar (we dont call them bullbars) fitted, I'd heartily recommend a pair of good spots (I have some compact 100W ones) wired into to work with main beam (haven't done that yet but will) as being a good workaround

This "What" shop sounds amazing.
Pity it is rather a long distance away

Plenty of bulbs on the market paul, a lot of them claim as much as 50% increase in light output... You pays yer money...paul gange wrote:Hi all, question is it possible to up rate bongo headlamp bulbs from the bog standard ones,as mine are as useless as a candle down a coalmine. your thoughts please paul.
I have some "all weather" bulbs in at the moment, they give a yellowish/purplish light, and do seem to be brighter in the bad weather, i reckon they will be brill in fog....

Thanks for the bulbs Dave - received very quickly. What a great concept this site and the club is - Its one of the reasons I bought a Bongo in the first placeDavid Edwards wrote:Well how about 50% brighter, Xenon Blue, 60/55 watt H4 headlamp bulbs, at £4.00 a pair all in. Cheers BDC - thanks for the tip
I fitted one of Alant54's prototype roof racks at the weekend (the one I out bid you for on the NW/Yorkshire crew charity auction
). I am very impressed with both the GRP concept and the build quality. Hope to bring it up north to one of your meets when the weather is better

It'd be great to see you at a local meet, you'd be made very welcome!

Check out the "meet with a twist" thread in "north west" section....

I find my original Bongo lights plenty bright enough!
I would be inclined to put a meter on the connectors, and just check the voltage reaching the bulbs - and then compare that reading with the actual battery voltage.
Could be there is a voltage drop through the switch / connectors that is limiting the voltage.
If this was the case - it would be fairly easy to introduce a relay into the circuit to regain those lost volts.
