Sliding door only half working

Post by mobilecat » Fri Feb 15, 2008 1:05 pm

I have done a search but I can't find this one.

I have just spent some time in the car in the back with the door closed and when I came to open the sliding door - nothing happenned. I had to clamber out through the passenger door. It is working from the outside but not from the inside and I have no idea why or how long this has been like this. My son knows he isn't allowed to open the door himself so I always open it from the outside so it may have been like this for upto a week which was when I was doing the curtains (must have worked then).

Any ideas on what to do. I am baffled on this one.

is there a child lock on the door?.... usually a small catch on the side of the door that you can access when the door is opened from outside.

Yes it's the child lock on the front edge of the door - it's not difficult to accidentally set it without realising you've done it.

Now thats a sensible idea - It would have been the first thing to occur to me with any of my previous cars. I suppose it proves I have a child that doesn't fiddle in cars because I haven't used it yet - I will check.

That's it folks. Thanks so much everyone. I have put it back on now that I know thats the problem. Littlie sits in the back so I hadn't used it so far but I suppose it should be on so it is. He usually just hops onto the middle folded seat and waits for me to fly him out:)

Be advised MC, that childlock catch is a demon for knocking on and off by accident. That has implications both ways.

I taped over mine with gaffer tape as it annoyed me so. Even then, it punched a hole through the gaffer tape when somebody whatevered it, so it could be knocked on and off again.

I would reckon a lump of Blutac pressed against it in the unset position would be better than gaffer tape at stopping it getting knocked on.

I am not worried. It was different when he sat by a car door handle. I couldn't and wouldn't trust fiddling fingers. Now he sits away from the door and he would never try the handle as he knows I open it. I will leave it on primarily for little guests!

Hindsight MC, hindsight. Also, wouldn't want it getting involved with the mechanism if - say - car left out on v hot day and the stuff melted into the works etc.
