Very basic battery question

Post by mobilecat » Sat Oct 27, 2007 7:03 pm

If I open the door of my van and turn on the light to show my vehicle off etc. I presume the battery drain would be minimal as long as I remember to turn it off, even if it was on for some time. I haven't had a vehicle capable of leaving any lights on EVER in my life so I am a little paranoid.

The battery should stand the interior lights being on for yonks and still have enough oomph to start it - just like you should be able to leave the parking lights on for hours

......although I know someone who drained his battery after several hours with the CD player & interior lights, and with an auto couldn't get going without the intervention of the RAC - an embarrassing one with his latest popsy in the passenger seat

When I first got my Freda I went camping in Wales and sat all evening reading a book by the light of the florescent strip light assuming it was wired to the leisure battery - it wasn't  The van started OK though :D I have since modified the wiring to have all the internal lights running from the leisure battery

No it hasn't got twin batteries so I have space for a leisure when Im ready. I wasnt convinced about the current battery as I knew it was flat last time I was there so he put me in a new one as I watched today before I drove away:)

The bulbs in the front (cabin area) are very easily replaced with l.e.d bulbs too mobilecat, which uses next to nothing battery power.... These are much brighter too

The interior lights are like any other vehicle, with three positions

On
Off
On when door is opened.

So you can leave the lights on in a Bongo, only in the same way as any other car :?

Exactly, why are you turning on yourself at all?

Put it in the auto position and it's the same as the fridge

door open=light on
door closed=light off

The only difference is that you can tell it's off with the Bongo, with the fridge you can never really be sure, can you???????
