Hey up,

I have exactly the same issue with my Bongo, but I don't understand how it can be the glow plugs themselves...

If the plugs are manly enough to get the van started first go on a cold morning, why are they then not manly enough to keep the engine happy from then on after ten seconds or so?

Wouldn't that then point to it being a sensor or switching problem?

I've trawled through loads of good advise on this forum and everything points to it being the glow plugs, but my engineer's mind just can't figure out why. Before I splash out the cash on some new beauties, I wondered if anyone can put me straight.

Cheers, Shad.

Mine still does it on start up - haven't got round to changing all four, yet!
Changed the one that wasn't working & its' definitely better - tho' not quite right.
For the sake of £30, I'll replace the other 3 before the cold weather gets a grip.

Mine does it if I don't leave the heater lights long enough
time to go out, had a BMC once that did it from new never
got worse or better. Indirect injection engines are always
worse starters than direct, our last a Rover tdi started instantly
no matter what the temp with no glow plug delay you only
had to show it the key, the bongo is better than the Fiesta
we had from new I always wondered if that would start on
a cold morning, it did first time but always after a bit of churning.

Had mine done three weeks ago and now (glowplugs that is) set of four.
Only 1 working out of the four, but she started with a bit of a struggle!.
Now ive got problems of another nature; i went to start it the other day and it tried to fire for a split second. Then died no starter and then heard the fans cut in. This happened twice, and then she started. Im also getting a bit more excessive smoke than usual, even after the engine is warm.

Any help appreciated.
Darren.
