Rewire radio to leisure

Post by mayk19 » Tue Aug 21, 2007 2:57 pm

A day of many questions from me, had a longer list after the first hols but I can't remember all of them yet !

Is it a big job to rewire radio to leisure battery ?

Depends on what power pickups (fuses) have been provided as part of your leisure battery setup. It's just a case of transferring the live source for the radio to the leisure battery live but it should be earthed. Why not transfer a number of functions to the leisure battery in one fell swoop by rerouting the fusebox feed? Details can be found by doing a search. May even be a factsheet.

i re-routed the ciggy socket and the internal lights to leisure battery and found my radiio must have been on one of these circuits so a bonus for me.
Lost without my Bongo.

My very early post with full details on how to rewire various auxiliaries to the leisure battery is still the classic on the subject.

I will let you do the SEARCH to find it - 'cos I haven't a clue where it is after all this time!

I couldn't find it either pip,but i do remember it...
Speaking of radio's wired to L/B's...

My head unit is wired to the leisure battery too,i have just fitted some "7x10" speakers in the rear of my bongo,a new head unit, and a 2 channell amp powering a 12" subwoofer.

I thought i'd be clever though

The way i saw it was,the last thing that anybody wants when camping is the boom, boom of a sub :? So i connected the amp to the starter battery, me thinking that the amp would power down when ignition is off, leaving the radio to happily tinkle away whilst overnighting, disturbing no-body.

To my utter suprise the amp remained on with ignition OFF!

I was stood there for over 20 minutes scratching my head before i realised that the head unit's remote cable was telling the amp that a signal was still being received, and the small fact that the amp is directly linked to the starter battery (with 3 inline fuses) and bypasses the ignition entirely! DOH!
