Screaching sound at biting point
I have a manual gearbox bongo and at the moment, when I change gear and reach the biting point, there is a screaching sound until the clutch is all the way back up. Once the clutch is up there is no sound whilst driving. This happens going up and down the gears and there is no gear where the sound is worse. Is my clutch on the way out Hellllllllllllllllp!!

Many thanks. I see that the kit is £240, any ideas on estimated labour cost? Also, any ideas on another problem. When I drive the bongo (to work in the morning for example) there seems to be a smell which comes through the vents. When I stop the bongo, if I lift the bonnet I can smell the smell more easily from the bonnet end. Any idea? Thanks for your help.

There was some talk on BF about removing and cleaning up the heater matrix (I think it was, it was the heater/blower gubbins anyway) as it can get really crudded up, which impairs its efficiency (overwork the motor?), and presumably could cause smells too. Have a Search on BF using words like 'blower' etc

scretching sound from clutch
My son in Law has a Golf racing car, He had a loud scretching sound from the clutch whilst the pedal was down. After deciding it definitely was the clutch we took it out and found that two of the drive straps in the clutch cover were broken. There are three metal strips between the cover and the rubbing plate which hold the rubbing plate in place, when the straps were broken the rubbing plate is free to move.

These 3 straps actually take all the drive between the engine and gearbox - hard to believe they look so flimsy. It's no wonder it was screeching! They probably broke when he "dumped" the clutch in racing car fashion..............

thrust bearing
definitely ..clutch thrust bearing ..agree with the advice given on previous posts . .having gone to the trouble and expense of taking your box down..renew your cluch assembly too ..the screeching is caused by the dry bearing as you disengage the clutch . .[ putting in the cluch pedal]
