WOW

picked mine up from the garage last monday

cambelt/tensioner/spring full service and gearbox oil and rear diff oil/air/oil/fuel filter
plus a good once over
i supplied parts/ oil
was charged 6 hour labour £120

which i must admit was less than i was expecting

just checked my autodata cd(don`t ask) for a
1998 mazda b series 2.5d
engine code wl

repair time hrs
B series 2.5d 1998-04
check and adjust 1.00 hr
remove and install 1.00hr

same cambelt procedure as a bongo i take it

Does this mean that the job has a book time of 1 hour for replacing a cam belt?

This would be in line with several times given by forum members but only 1/3 of what a couple of garages have told me.

What is the chance that a N reg bongo ('95?) would take much longer?

I think you should add the two times together ie 2 hours which fits with what was reported earlier and sounds about right all considered.

However, I wouldn't use that as a stick with which to beat your garage with. They would only contest it and say they had problems. Difficult to prove otherwise. Just don't use them again and tell all your mates the same.

There's a helluva easier access to the belt on a B2500 than a Bongo!

Hi, interesting reading all the replies, thought i might slip in with a question. Just had my Bongo serviced and all the belts replaced by my local garage, however two weeks down the line am getting a lot of noise from the belts

, sounds like they are slipping especially at idle and when moving off, sound disappears once i ve got moving. Is this because they need tensioning and is that a job i could attempt

, have done it before with prev cars but the Bongo loks like a different kettle of fish.

I don't suppose the garage gave you any guarantee but in the hope they may keep you as a regular customer they may offer to re-tighten the belts for free if you take the "surely they shouldn't be doing this approach" rather than complaining about bad workmanship etc.

It is likely that the mechanic guessed at the tension as actual figures wouldn't have been available to him. I'm not sure if the manual states the belt tensions or not (must remember to take a look). You could do it yourself by increasing the tightness a touch, but from what I can see it will require you to either remove the gubbins at the front of the engine to gain access from above or remove the engine undercover to gain access from underneath. I'd try taking it back to the garage approach first.

Thanks , have used the garage for a good ten years now so should be ok bout it, its more the aggro of having to drop it off and pick it up when normally would just do it myself

All done, the adjustment bolt had lost a nut so just a case of lifting passenger seat replacing nut and tightening it, and they did not charge

knowone had a a cam belt done in and around the yorkshire area??? Need mine done ASAP!!!

I provided the parts (from AVA about £70 inc belt, tensioner & spring) and my garage did the biz for £37-50p (1.5 hours labour) having given them a printoff of the factsheet from the member's area.

Garage said it would have taken at least twice as long without the sheet...that paid my membership fee for the year.

That is amazingly cheap for the labour time.....Although i was thinking somewhere closer to home friends....
Soverign still a good 35-40 min drive....quoted £175 inc vat....

If i can get labour as cheap as that i would be more than happy....seen full kit on fleebay for £46 delivered!!!!!
