Re: Would a Petrol fit instead of Diesel?

I have often pondered this - if I started to experience engine failure on this level I would probably give up on the 2.5TD and find a bloody good workshop willing to take on a project. I love the bongo but I have to say it is the most overcomplicated mess of unnecessary tubes, wires and hoses I have...

Re: Do we need travel insurance?

It is cheap and totally worth the money should you ever need it. I always get it no matter where I am holidaying as it can save you from a ruined holiday or a completely broken bank account. Re: Checking the ATF level

To put your mind at ease - my van had all the fluid dropped + replaced by a very experienced garage about 12 months ago.

If I check the level when stationery it is well and truly over full...I think this dipstick is a bit dipsy wipsy.

Re: Blown/ Failing split charge relay system - howto trace f

Rear socket is working fine. I am going to park outside the auto shop this afternoon and replace every fuse in the car if I can get them, they are all looking a little old with some corrosion. I would absolutely love to take the van in and get the split charge system completely replaced with one tha...

Re: Blown/ Failing split charge relay system - howto trace f

The unit is a refurb - it was done the week before I purchased the van. There is a chance that it is from a Mazda Bravo :| Unfortunately my multimeter is a cheap piece of plastic with fixed probes and cannot possibly measure amps that high. At idle it is providing a consistent 14.4-14.6V at all time...

Re: Blown/ Failing split charge relay system - howto trace f

Any thoughts on weather I should be driving the van around in this state? Am I going to cause any further damage?

Re: Steering Rack?

Sorry, not much help but just wondered, how do you know your drop links and anti roll bar, tie rod ends etc are 'ok'?

I could not see much difference between a brand new tie rod end and my old ones but sure makes a difference when they 'worn'.

Blown/ Failing split charge relay system - howto trace fault

Good morning boys and girls. Another day, another gremlin - I must remember to stop feeding the furries after midnight. Now before anybody starts throwing old threads at me or assuming my alternator is dead I will save some time :) I have read all threads related to sediment/ charge light etc etc an...

Re: Could Sheared Exhaust Manifold Bolt/s lead to overheatin

Thank you for the replies. I have ordered a mazda stat and will have that replaced at the same time as studs in the next couple of weeks. I'll make sure to drop in and keep you guys updated. Also pretty keen to see if this mechanical mob feel confident in blocking off / removing all the EGR gear. We...

Could Sheared Exhaust Manifold Bolt/s lead to overheating?

Greetings all you cool cats and fine felines, After almost a year of extremely proud and trouble free bongo ownership I have finally started down the path we all seem to follow at some point with these vehicles. 1995 TD 4x4. Recently started getting 'the whine' when I take off quickly, turned out it...

Re: How "HOT" does it have to get ???

Sensor is mounted on the engine head, top left - at the bolt-on point advised in the new instruction manual for the bongo combo alarm (TM-2 + LCA). This spot is accessible by removing the plate behind the centre console and choosing the bolt advised in the pictures. I am in Australia - unit was ship...

Re: How "HOT" does it have to get ???

My sensor is fitted to back of engine block as per latest instructions from the shop here in Aus. I just did a 1000KM drive with only a few small breaks here and there; Temperature at this location sat at an average of about 97 Celsius but did climb up to 107 for a time when I was heading up a very ...

Re: How "HOT" does it have to get ???

Sorry for the thread revival. After having just read every single thread on cooling in the forum + TM2s it would seem that 110 is quite high for most people, even for the diesels. My new van + TM2 has hit 104 degrees C when I was intentionally thrashing it up and down hills for 10 minutes to test th...

Re: 2.5 Diesel Turbo Lifespan?

Also keen to hear of anybody who has had to replace their TURBO on the diesel engines at some point.

Being so hot here it is not uncommon to see the occasional turbo pouring smoke and costing it's poor owner many dollars to replace.
