Re: Replacing Bongo roof struts - How to - DO NOT DELETE

Thanks for this thread - it helped me a lot today! Most of the early photos come up as not available but it might be just me?

One extra tip I would add, as I had to do the job twice because of it, the new SGS struts have thinner nuts and the washers on the old ones were captive on the old parts, I ...

Re: Expansion tank cap wrong pressure

Thanks everyone for your comments!

The cap on the radiator is 1.1bar but I don't know if it's a sealed one or sprung and I'm too scared of getting air in to take it off and look!

Doesn't sound like it's a really big issue but I get the impression it probably won't be the culprit for my leak.

I ...

Expansion tank cap wrong pressure

I've noticed that my expansion tank cap is marked as 0.9 bar but I have read that it is supposed to be 1.1 bar. This is for the 2.5l diesel engine.

Does anyone know exactly what difference that 0.2 bar really makes? I have been having coolant loss for some time but no sign of it coming out via the ...

Re: Removing part of a conversion

I had assumed that I would need to remove the roof lining in order to get at the bolts that hold the rails to the roof? But first I've got to get that fridge out. Nobody seems to have any suggestions so I guess I'll try and contact Ed over the next week or so. I may also see if he's up for quoting ...

Re: Removing part of a conversion

Sorry for the quiet patch but I've been away. Back to the Bongo again now though!

I've just spent a while switching the roof up / down - probably several hundred times but no sign of any movement at all. :(

So it looks like I'm looking at trying to detach the whole roof from the van and in order ...

Re: Removing part of a conversion

Thanks Bob but yes, running the engine and revving hard. No movement at all but as you say, motors are drawing current I'm sure. The Bongo has been having trouble with several switches and wiring connections over the last 2 years or so and the roof switch stopped working completely a while ago until ...

Removing part of a conversion

Wasn't sure if this should go here or in the conversions forum but here goes:

My AFT roof won't go up with the roof light coming on, bleeping and dash lights dimming but no roof movement. So the next thing to look at is the control unit in the rear but on a converted Bongo that means removing part ...

Re: Solar Panels Installed

Dodgey:
Thanks for the comments.
I agree that most 100W thin panels are too long but I could fit 2 x 50W in the space available and I was thinking of mounting them on an intermediate plastic sheet which can be screwed into the existing holes in the AFT. The plastic sheet I had in mind is probably ...

Re: Solar Panels Installed

Q. for Dodgey:
I was looking at your kits but was wondering why you use the "standard" panels rather than the much lighter semi flexible ones you sound like you plan to use for your VW kit?
There seems to be as much as 5kg difference between the standard and flexible units at 100W although the ...

Re: s wales camp???

OK - we just booked in. They are getting short of hook ups but still have plenty of room "off grid".

If the weather's half decent the kids will want to spend most of the time on the beach with their body boards I expect.

Hi,
We may be interested - I'll give a call and see if they have space.

Any other families with kids going? Ours are 7 & 10.

No obvious answers then. I'll try and check a few things over the weekend and let you know...

Fuel gauge & temp gauge both dead!

Any suggestions as to what the most likely cause of these 2 (fuel & temp) gauges dying together?

The fuel gauge has always been a bit iffy despite having the extra earth mod done but over a few months the temp gauge peaked lower & lower while the fuel gauge became less responsive. Now the needles ...
