Any suggestions as to what the most likely cause of these 2 (fuel & temp) gauges dying together?
The fuel gauge has always been a bit iffy despite having the extra earth mod done but over a few months the temp gauge peaked lower & lower while the fuel gauge became less responsive. Now the needles don't move on either.
The fuel gauge used to work with the ignition off but I can't remember if the temp gauge did?
Any suggestions as to what I might be looking for before I attack my dashboard......
Thanks in advance!

I think I would be suspicious of the Earth connection via connector 3L see below:

as that connection is the only thing that is common between those two gauges. The wire coming from the connector is Black and goes to Earth point 7 which is on the far offside of the Dashboard.

The +12v from the ignition switch powers all the Lamps and everything else on the Dashboard so unless all the lights are out its not the fuse which would be the second from the Left on the middle row down by the drivers knee 15 Amp.
This assumes a pre Jan 1999 WL-T vehicle.

Re: Fuel gauge & temp gauge both dead!
As g8dhe says above, the instrument panel uses ACC (IG) and Ground (E) for most of
the supplies on the instrument panel PCB. If these were a problem you would
expect stuff like speedo etc. to also be playing up.

The 2 gauges shown above are fairly robust if the screws haven't been
played with so I would first suspect simple coincidence as far as the
two gauges failing together is concerned.
Before stripping out the instrument panel, check the spade connections
to the temperature sensor on the cylinder head which is a common
fault. If this cures the temp gauge problem then deal with the fuel
gauge at the tank end.

Thanks both.
No obvious answers then. I'll try and check a few things over the weekend and let you know...
