I've just had a response to an email I sent to Ian. Apparently I'm not the only one with the fuel filter problem:

it looks the correct one to me simon, i wonder if the valve is faulty, can you push up the internal disc that is blocking the sensor with a screwdriver or something .

Wondered about that as there's a spring 'involved'. Tried very gingerly but wouldn't give and didn't want to push my luck any ...

How peculiar. You mean the White plastic seal/sensor to bottom of the fuel filter?

Let me know if this solves your problem (when it fits) - mine is still playing up (when warm or 20mins driving). Very intermittent.
